Data Visualisation - Social Media Profiles
We were each allocated a data set where we then had to look at the data and form a clear question our your head about what we would like the data to portray to the audience through the use of skillful juxtaposition of text and image. We then had to look at how we could add narrative to the data to tell a visual story that inspires, excites and informs the viewer. We also had to make our data visualisation interactive to build layers of multivariate meaning to facilitate an engaging visual experience for the user. I decided to look at the relationship between social media profiles, employees and employers. An increasing amount of employers scan potential employee’s social media profiles before offering them a job. Therefore I created an interactive data visualisation titled ‘Are your social media profiles failing their interview?’ The interface of my design replicates a computer screen with toolbars and page tabs to help add context and narrate the piece of data. The interactivity helped the viewer uncover different layers of data and also allowed them to mask certain parts so that they could analyse just one section if they desired.
